REDUCED CARBON EMISSIONS
Virginia Macari® is a swimwear brand with its roots in Marbella, a beautiful, biodiverse, and multicultural area. Evolving in this surrounding made us self-conscious about the importance of taking care of our planet and the impact of climate change.
Our mission is to produce environmentally responsible swimwear with the lowest carbon footprint. We’re not perfect, which is why we constantly seek solutions that add value in terms of sustainability, environmental protection, and climate neutrality.
ONE BEACH AT A TIME
We believe that our duty as a small luxury brand is not only to act, but also to mobilize and inspire our community and society.
Committed to helping keep oceans clean, Virginia Macari Swimwear allocates a portion of its profits and resources to sponsor and help our local ocean care charity, Plastic Free Seas Worldwide, by conducting a monthly beach clean-up while spreading awareness about the plastic being dumped in our seas.
Each month, between 100 & 500 kilos of plastics and waste are collected from our beaches by a local army of volunteers. PFSW is a European charity whose aim is to help marine conservation by offering beach and ocean clean-ups, as well as educating people of all ages in order to save our planet.
SUSTAINABLE LUXURY
Sustainable luxury is the future as it invites us to "meet the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs".
As small luxury brand and new generation creatives we have the responsibility to protect our Mother Earth by including green practices in our businesses.
We pursue our commitment to climate action by producing and buying locally, making sustainability a central focus in the way we manufacture, as well as the materials that we use.
Most of Virginia Macari Swimwear are made with ECONYL®, a 100% regenerated nylon fiber created from Ocean plastic waste that would have otherwise polluted the Earth.
OUR PRINCIPLES
"Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm. It's about doing more good."
It is no secret that clothes are manufactured in the same way today than they were 60 years ago. Mass production, conspicuous waste and unethical labor laws are the hidden costs one has to pay in exchange for cheap garments. As a fashion company who strives to run a sustainable business, we have taken a different approach, built around 3 main principles to produce the lowest carbon print emission collection:
Limited Runs. Every piece is handmade with only very limited stocks, and no warehouses are filled with unsold clothing.
Made in Marbella. Each design and every detail are carefully considered, promoting local business, preventing biodiversity loss, all while reducing waste and pollution.
Everything is made or produced within a 40 miles radius from sketch to garment to shipping, accessories, stickers, and packaging. All fabrics and yarns are sourced from either Spain or Italy.
Ethical and Passionate. Virginia Macari Swimear only uses the most sustainable fabric option available - with each piece artisanally crafted by our exceptionally skilled production team, with an uncompromising dedication to producing quality swimwear.
OUR FABRIC
ECONYL®
“Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.”
In a circular economy, waste is not the end but the beginning, which is why Virginia Macari Swimwear has partnered with ECONYL.
What is ECONYL?
It's a type of regenerated nylon made from waste such as fishing nets and other nylon waste. It can also be recycled, recreated, and remolded without consuming additional resources.
Why ECONYL?
It's soft and also twice as resistant to chlorine and suntan oils. Additionally, ECONYL's regenerated nylon also helps climate change, reducing the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% compared with oil-based materials.
Saving the ocean.
Ghost fishnets represent 75% of the Great Pacific garbage patch, making it the most polluting and hazardous agent for ocean wildlife.
Our impact. For every 10,000 tonnes of ECONYL used, 65,100 tonnes of CO2 eq. emissions are avoided, and 70,000 barrels of crude oil are saved.
